Anti-Emo Riots Break Out Across Mexico

Monday night skating

Many people have in the past, made snide asides about me being in my mid twenties and still skateboarding. This, I can only assume, is because the have empty, echoing insides, bereft of any sort of useful or enjoyable pursuits. Thankfully, those closest to me can understand my need to go very fast while standing on a plank of wood 2 inches from the floor. Here’s a video for you, you heroes. Cartrain Graffiti sucks balls

This guy going by the tag Cartrain and hailing out of Leytonstone, has been subjecting the fine streets of Hoxton, Shoreditch and Hackney in general to an onslaught of weak graffiti/stenciling. His graffiti is, what they call in art circles, shit. It is a rip-off of Banksy using the misguided, misunderstood and missed-the-point political garble of someone who frankly wouldn’t know his liberal from his libel, his democracy from his demographics and his globalisation from his Global HyperColour t-shirt.

Cartrain

I think there’s a word missing here that should be running in big red letters through the whole thing; bollocks

Cartrain, I have a message for you, stop polluting our streets with your absolute garbage. Why don’t you leave graffiti and politics to those who know what they’re doing/talking about?

Rated & Retarded - Easter and beyond…

This Easter Sunday clubbing and music line-up confirms to me that nothing is sacred anymore. Whilst I intend to have a much quieter night of playing Zelda on the Wii, hoards of crazy mofos will be partying harder than ever at a range of all-dayers & all-nighters. As well as tonight’s crazy antics, I’ve decided to chuck out some longer distance heads-ups…

Death of Shoreditch Part III

It’s on like Donkey Kong. In the one corner we have the faceless developers and the somewhat difficult to pin-down councilors and in the other we have pretty much everyone else. The plans that I discussed in my ‘Death of Shoreditch’ article, i.e. building a giant structure next to the imposing Broadgate Tower are still in the throws of being agreed, despite quite a few respectable people in the development field opposing the plans. However, this my friends, is only the start of it…

DMX knows politics.

Thanks to XXLmag (and Kottke) for this awesome snippet from a recent interview with DMX (he’s, uh, a rapper, for those of you not in the know).

You’re not? You know there’s a Black guy running, Barack Obama and then there’s Hillary Clinton.
His name is Barack?!

Barack Obama, yeah.
Barack?!

Barack.
What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa? Read more »

Black Cab Sessions

Came across this the other day, and I’ve been meaning to blog it. Basically, these guys arrange for (very small) sessions with bands in the back of a black cab. It’s one song, they take a little trip and it seems to mostly be, well, acoustic.

Here’s Emmy the Great:

Which is probably my favourite, but then a few more highlights we liked here.

Late Night Shoreditch Tales…

Whilst the government decides whether 24 hour licensing has been a success or failure, with one side of the coin being less concentrated aggro at conventional closing time and the other being an increase in 2am/3am rumblings, I for one welcome the move towards a more European approach to night-time activities. The Irregulars tend to go out late these days, say 10/11pm having either chilled out on a mass-scale after work or done something pre-nightstalking. I’ve decided to pull together a list of the late, late spots in the East (and a little further afield) to save you guys having to sculk home early aural unsatisfied with some of your best dance moves and chat left to give.
