Found this clip on Youtube of Tricky performing “Hell is round the Corner” at the Mercury awards in 1995 (the lyrics of which I’m a huge fan of and they can be found here). I’ve been delving back into Portishead, Leftfield, Massive Attack and, of course, Tricky of late and it’s been a musical odyssey I’d truly recommend. Just for added amusement, listen to the “critics” review of Tricky after his performance. I’ll give you a clue, 2 of them have seen a few disused warehouses in their time and 2 haven’t and I’ll give you another clue, the Marco Pierre-White lookalike certainly doesn’t seem down with trip hop or it’s associated trappings…

If, like Tricky, you want to get dressed up in Stüssy, I was perusing their new collection earlier and they have some killer stuff, especially in their deluxe range…check it here.

Those of you that have dawdled down Brick Lane or donned your Hunter wellies (trendy wellies? the end is nigh.) to stomp through fields recently will have noticed that one style of sunglasses is in the ascendancy in a big way. But wait! Something sinister is awry with the Wayfarers!

Having purchased a pair of said Wayfarer’s last summer, I was obviously a bit pissed off to see every Jack and fucking Danny sporting them this summer.

Although to give the glasses their due, they are a tasty set of peeper protectors. I recently dropped them off a 40ft roof in Marrakech and they didn’t even scratch!

Anyway, I’m not as peeved about the wave of Wayfarers since I found out that it’s all to do with a bizarre Shoreditch-based underground cult.

The cult are going by the name of Ooby Dooby. Ooby Dooby was started by Roy Orbison fantatics who have implanted micro-chips into all of the trendy frames, which when turned on will turn all Wayfarer wears into Roybots who spend the rest of eternity singing Orbison classics (all four of them).

I for one can’t wait. Here’s the great man himself with a little treat for the ladies…

I am, apparently, noted for the high quality of the t-shirts I wear. While I do own a few that I’ve picked up from threadless over the years, my main source of t’s these days is the awesome service t-post.se
Every 6(ish) weeks they will send you a t-shirt, nicely wrapped up and delivered to your door (in an envelope that fits through the letterbox).

And mostly they’re great t-shirts. Admittedly, the current clown one is deeply, deeply messed up, and probably will never get worn, but the rest get great play. The t-shrts are based on a stroy that has been in the news, or at least reported on, in the previos 6 weeks, and they vary from a t designed around the 2004 tsunami to much lighter news stories:

They’ve only got about 2500 subscribers worldwide, so the odds of bumping into someone else wearing the t’s are pretty low, and even if you do, at least you know you aren’t part of the ridiculous brick lane t-shirt massive. Well worth the price, IMHO.

Just got back from Brick Lane market, and realised one thing: if you laid out all the t-shirts for sale on Brick Lane side by side, they would loop the Earth 14 times. It’d be like some hipster version of hands across America. The Ditch’s appetite for t-shirts is phenomenal. You have arty t-shirts, geeky t-shirts, retro t-shirts and some really, really shit ones. It’s getting out of control, there needs to be an embargo on t-shirts.

I think if you took all of the t-shirts out of Shoreditch there would actually be a realignment of the tectonic plates, creating a massive hill for scenesters to ride their choppers and Mary Poppins bikes down.

Brick Lane is possibly the epicentre of t-shirt design in London, but there is no debate about the t-shirt kings of the interwebs. Threadless is the sex. If it wasn’t a website I’d make it my girlfriend and have frenzied sex with it whilst wearing complementing ironic t-shirts . In fact I’m currently wearing some of its wares, this little puppy.

If you aren’t au fait with Brick Lane market, you should check it out – it has a fairly eccentric spread of stalls varying from beautifully intricate and inspired design and craft stuff to good international food to Steptoe and Son-esque Rag and Bone stalls. Also there’s a bike stall where you can probably reclaim all the bikes you’ve ever had stolen.

As a taster of some of the more scene elements of the markets check The Style Scout.

For an example of some of the fly stuff available at the market check out The World of Bobby Dazzler.

Oh and if you’re walking down Great Eastern Street today watch out for this mad Chinese chick trying to sell crack, not appropriate Sunday afternoon vibe. However, if you are going near the Shoreditch High Street Tesco, they have the motherload of reduced stuff today, which is fully FOR THE WIN, MOAR!!!!!!one1!!!!!
