Half-baked and half-arsed analysis of our traffic over the last year or so (we’re nearly 1 year old and will be marking the event with a podcast!) has thrown up some interesting findings. Firstly, we get a lot of visitors who are looking for various forms of worship fetishes. If you are one of those people right now, you have failed in your quest for depravity. Within the fetish seekers there is basically everything and somethings so out there that even I didn’t know people got off on them.

Secondly, we have visitors from pretty much all over the World, so props (or the indigenous equivalent of props) to you guys! Within this World population, we seem to be exponentially more popular in one country outside of the UK than all the others. Yes, you guessed it, Mexico.

Mexico hit the news (as reported by the Irregulars!) recently due to the anti-emo riots that were going down over there. Apparently certain facets of non-emo Mexicans think Emos are gay (interestingly a theory held across most of teh internets) and as a consequence of their limited tolerance to said accused bum-foolery, have been bringing the rage to the Mexican Emo population.

We here at the Irregulars don’t condone such emo-flogging, especially considering most of our Mexican readers seem to like the Horrors posts, ergo with a 99% confidence level are emo (as I don’t think scene delineation is as advanced in Mexico).

So our Mexican readership, we salute you. Vive le revolution in skinny jeans, eye-liner and gravity defying hair! The remaining population, what with their occasional wrestling expertise and dalliances with religious fanaticism, will surely submit to your downbeat ways.

To mark being ‘Big in Mexico’, here is Tom Waits’ ‘Big in Japan’…

You may remember sometime ago we mentioned the Angry Nintendo Nerd in our article about the 8-bit invasion and heralded him as the future of video game reviewing. His uber-geek knowledge mixed with his four-letter tirades at any sign of gaming flaws made for the perfect combo. However, it is a very much bittersweet task I must undertake in informing you that he has been surpassed.

Ben “Yathtzee” Croshaw is his name and I’m proud to say that he’s a Brit. He combines an expansive vocabulary with insane gaming knowledge, all delivered in a satire manner that he’s pulled straight from the top drawer. The icing on the cake is that the cartoon graphics that accompany his dry voiceover are pure lulz. I challenge you to watch his review of the latest Grand Theft Auto below without laughing. If you don’t laugh, you’re prolly dead inside, which is OK but you might want to lighten up a bit.

It’s been reported this week that facebook, bebo (what?) and myspace are all getting hit up a lot less on the interweb recently. Traffic has dropped pretty significantly at all three and people are asking if this is the end of social networking. To which the answer is unequivocally no, failtards.

Social networking is not such a new thing; those of us who have been using the internet since before myspace might remember a site called faceparty; mainly populated by the grimy denizens of the rave and techno world, with a strong line in random hook-ups, faceparty is the Dolphin at 4am on monday morning compared to facebook’s Tea bar on a thursday night. And here’s the thing; faceparty is winning really hard as a social network still. It started well before 2000 and still pulls in very stable and strong traffic.

So what can facebook add to stop failing it, or at least keep getting traffic and selling ridiculously cheap advertising?

PROTIP: The answer is not the ‘What Kind of Lover Are You?’ Application

I predict that the next big step in social network is going to be a bit of ghettoization. For my real friends, I can still suffice with that most old school of social networks; e-mail. We want to be able to interrupt each other freely, and, to be honest, it’s really easy to opt out of a big CC email thread, so this works for me. In terms of workplace procrastination, I’ll lay good money on more time still being wasted in email banter between friends than on all the social networking sites combined. And then the ghetto social networks; I’ll be happy to shuffle many of my pseudo and low-level friends into where they are useful. Interesting observations on life? Get onto my twitter. Useful networking contact? Onto linkedin. And so on. And, in fact, putting the people who I do sports with into sports social network, my gig buddies in last.fm and yada yada…Each of these social networks then has the tools I need to do what I want with these people, and I can use facebook just as a bit of an aggregration (lets face it, it only really wins for photo tagging, yeah?)

Another post this weekend but I just had to share this…

I asked someone over the weekend if they’d like to write for the site to which they responded “Would Shakespeare write a blog?”.

Now this had me a little confused. I immediately discounted the interpretation that this guy had just compared his literary ability to that of the great man. Even in the surreal and vain World of Shoreditch, this would be a new low/high.

So I assume he was philosophising outloud.

Shakespeare would obviously be all over teh internets because he was one bard-ass mo fo. If you look at his plays they all point to the fact he would be online all the time pwning nOObz…

Life is short, apparently. I actually think it’s fairly long (f we take average life expectancy)…but hey who am I to argue?

I saw an article last week which was basically one of those life coach rants about “20 things to do to improve your life”. It was in some low-brow tabloid, so I can’t find it on the interwebs, because tabloids can’t use the intarnet. One of the “things to do” had particular resonance for me, it basically said stop wasting your time with people you don’t actually like, which whilst appearing quite obvious…got me thinking…

Now that we have all calmed down after the initial flurry that was social networking sites breaking the mainstream, it’s now time to take stock…why the fuck do I have 8032 friends? WHO THE FUCK are these people!? It’s time for the cull, it’s time to get back to reality and remove our connections with people who frankly, we’re never gonna speak to or ever gonna sleep with…face it, it’s fucking futile and by no means measures how likeable you are as a person.

Secondly, being in London I meet (i.e. have proper engagement with) approximately 10 new people on average a month. That’s 120 people a year. It’s not sustainable for me to be friends with all these people. So what I’m going to do, for a truly happy 2008, is sit down and work out who I actually and truly like spending time with. I think us Brits are too polite and emotionally retarded at times to say – “you know what, we used to have a good time but to be honest – I just don’t get where the fuck you’re coming from anymore! So let’s just give it a rest, yeah?”. Or even more severe “I don’t remember how we became friends/boyfriend&girlfriend/married but I just don’t reallllly find you very interesting, so shall we call it a day?”.

I’ve already implemented part 1 and reduced my facebook friends significantly and deleted my myspazz account. Next I’m gonna stop replying to texts/emails/facebook pokes from people that I just don’t want up in my World anymore. It’s better for everyone in the long term because in the immortal words of Sub Sub, if there ain’t no love, there ain’t no use…
