Found this clip on Youtube of Tricky performing “Hell is round the Corner” at the Mercury awards in 1995 (the lyrics of which I’m a huge fan of and they can be found here). I’ve been delving back into Portishead, Leftfield, Massive Attack and, of course, Tricky of late and it’s been a musical odyssey I’d truly recommend. Just for added amusement, listen to the “critics” review of Tricky after his performance. I’ll give you a clue, 2 of them have seen a few disused warehouses in their time and 2 haven’t and I’ll give you another clue, the Marco Pierre-White lookalike certainly doesn’t seem down with trip hop or it’s associated trappings…

If, like Tricky, you want to get dressed up in Stüssy, I was perusing their new collection earlier and they have some killer stuff, especially in their deluxe range…check it here.

Friday night was a pretty big one, quite literally, as I partied at the top of the Centrepoint tower, taking in some pretty epic tunes courtesy of the cats at Estimated Time of Arrival. The night was a one-off (we think) pop up club in the Paramount bar on the 31st floor of the (pretty spectacular inside, pretty dirty outside) centrepoint building. You can probably imagine, but the views were out of this world. Witness:

More after the jump…

And the obligatory 4:30 am video; sunrise was not a particularly welcome thing inside the club, though most of us did slacken the pace of dancing a little to have a look.

Get involved with the ETA scene, anyway; particularly strong tunes…the remix of Sister Nancy – Bam Bamat the start of the night blew my mind,

And Blackalicious’s Alphabet Aerobics getting dropped at approximately 6am could have been made for me…

You’ll also ge tthe chance to see international rugby stars consuming small mountains of controlled substances and, potentially, at least one of the Irregulars dancing like Suggs for 5 hours solid. Win!

This title works in 3 ways. Firstly, I’m sorry it’s been a while since I posted, to say that I’ve been getting beasted by work would be an understatement.

Secondly, I have stumbled across something of a horrific nature. Horrific in the sense that it is created by some of the guys from The Horrors. Spider and The Flies is something for synth & sequencer heads. PS. If you think that Dizzie’s latest track is pushing new boundaries in synth, you really don’t get it.

Thanks to Moosleybay.com for the image, heroes.

Having watched a couple of documentaries on the Horrors recently (recommendation – Counting in Fives doc), it’s apparent that this music lark isn’t just a flash in the pan to some of these guys, not just a way of earning some coin and getting some ladies. So yeah, obviously check out the new Horrors album and check out Spider and the Flies whilst you’re there. You can catch the Horrors at Offset Festival and Field Day this year whilst the gig on the 17th June at the Troxy in Whitechapel will be mad.

Finally and probably most appropriately in view of the title, the guys who brought us the best video shop of our lives (Today is Boring – which unfortunately shut down but has been reincarnated (in a way) further up Kingsland Road in Dalston) are pulling together a flesh eating flash mob as they did in 2007 to maraud the streets of London this very Sunday. So what else are you going to do – if you’re hungover from Saturday night’s antics you’re half way to being dead anyway!? Check out their site for details and some shots of their last deadbeat debacle.

The French and the noble art of Boxing are not things that are easily associated. In fact, I’m sure there hasn’t been a French World boxing champion, that’s probably because they are normally too busy getting drunk and trying to sleep with your girlfriend/boyfriend/sister/mum and aren’t exactly renown for being ‘hardcore’.

Whilst the French may have struggled to make an impact on boxing in real life, via the medium of en vogue electro-pop beats a la Kitsune the twosome known as ‘The Shoes’ weighing in at a combined weight of 140lbs (including skinny jeans) do just that on the Boxing inspired, ‘Knockout’ – remixed by the 80Kidz below.

The list of tracks that The Shoes have remixed on their myspace page reads like a teen scenesters wet dream; Santogold, Ladyhawke, Late of the Pier and Wiley. The two DJs hailing from Rhiems show that pop doesn’t have to be a dirty word, unless it is playing in the background whilst they are trying to fire into your girlfriend/boyfriend/sister/mum.

Final thought of a more English-centric nature; lots of great gigs coming up but can Graham Coxon being supported by Micachu at the Lexington really be beaten? Catch them this Weds (13th May).
